Daughter speaks out after mother was killed fleeing Goodwin Fire

Thousands of residents were forced to flee their homes, because of the Goodwin Fire near Prescott. Many of them eventually returned home, but one woman, sadly, will not, as she was killed in a car crash, while fleeing the fire.

Karla Livingston was simply following orders to evacuate her home, and was headed to her daughter's house when she was involved in a deadly accident. Now, her daughter, Leah Matheny, is speaking out on her mother's untimely passing.

Matheny said her mother was full of life.

"She was the best grandma. She was so strong," said Matheny.

One week ago, Livingson was order to evacuate her home in Humboldt. Because of the fast approaching Goodwin Fire. She was on her way to her daughter's home, but never made it, as she was involved in a multi-car rollover that later took her life.

After being in the hospital a couple of days, Livingston's body started to shut down. Matheny says her mother was in bad shape.

"They couldn't keep her blood pressure up," said Matheny. "They had to put her on dialysis, because she was swelling up and her Kidneys stopped working. Then her Liver stopped working."

Livingston's heart eventually stopped working, and was placed on life support. Matheny said she received a call Monday morning from doctors, saying they didn't think Livingston was going to make it.

Livingston was 54 years old.

Despite the tragedy, the family is trying to remember the good times and stay positive.

"My mom was that type the person with the personality that we thought she'd outlive us all," said Matheny. "She was just grammy. She was loud."

Matheny said if she had to choose the day that her mom would go, it would have been Independence Day.

"I told everybody, Fourth of July," said Matheny. "If it were to be any day she was going to pick to go, that was the day because she was very much like a firework. She was bright, loud, over the top, and if you handled her the wrong way, it could be dangerous, you know. That was my mom."

The family has set up a GoFundMe account.
