PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- A fatal crash involving an SUV shut down Cave Creek Road in north Phoenix on Thursday near Mountain View Road.
Police say 36-year-old Christopher O'Dell was speeding and lost control of his SUV. The vehicle rolled over and crashed into a utility pole and a tree. He was declared dead at the scene.
A 23-year-old male passenger was ejected during the collision.
"He was transported to the hospital and remains in extremely critical condition," stated Sgt. Vince Lewis.
Cave Creek Road was closed in both directions from roughly Shangri-La Road (11200 N) north to Cholla Road during the investigation.
Lewis says speed appears to be a factor in the collision and impairment is suspected.
