GILBERT, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- Del Taco became the first fast-food Mexican restaurant in the country on Thursday to begin serving Beyond Meat.
The company says it's 100% plant-based protein, available in vegan and vegetarian options.
Menu items include the Beyond Taco and the Beyond Avocado Taco.
At a new Del Taco location in Gilbert, Arizona near Higley and Baseline roads, the company's vice president of franchise operations says those who want to cut down on their meat intake and have more dietary options, might want to give the new tacos a try.
"This Beyond Meat tastes a lot like our ground beef. In fact, if you were to try them side-by-side, you may not know the difference," said Dave Wetzel.
Del Taco says it's worked for about a year to develop the proprietary recipe with the vendor.
