1 dead after ultralight aircraft crashes at Buckeye Airport

Authorities say one person is dead after the crash of an ultralight aircraft on the grounds of the Buckeye Municipal Airport near Palo Verde and Yuma Roads.

Buckeye Police identified the pilot as James George III. He was the only person aboard the aircraft that crashed around 2 p.m. Tuesday. George was from West Fargo, North Dakota.

Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration say the plane was a single-engine Evolution REVO light sport aircraft.

There's no immediate word on a possible cause of the crash. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified.

Buckeye is located about 40 miles west of Phoenix.
