1 armed robbery suspect wounded after shooting in Phoenix

- Authorities say one armed robbery suspect has been wounded and another is being sought after an officer-involved shooting in Phoenix near 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road.  On Saturday, police released the identity of the injured suspect.

Phoenix police say their officers and Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers had been assisting Glendale police in the search Friday afternoon.

Authorities say the suspect robbed a cell phone store earlier in the day and left the scene in a U-Haul truck. He then ditched the U-Haul and tried to carjack at least two people near 42nd Avenue and Dunlap, then tried to hide from officers in an apartment complex at 4221 West Dunlap. He also tried to break into a home.

A DPS trooper eventually caught up to the suspect in a backyard.

"The DPS trooper gives commands to the suspect. At that point the suspect turns around, raises his shirt again and at that point, the DPS trooper fires," Phoenix Police Officer James Holmes.

The trooper shot the 23-year-old suspect in the leg. Police say the wounded suspect sustained a non-life threatening injury and has been released from the hospital.  The suspect has been identified as 23-year-old Michael Cordova.

Officers are looking for another suspect, who they say was driving the U-Haul truck from the Glendale robbery.
