Authorities say a stranded motorist was struck and killed by a runaway driver along a Phoenix freeway.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says 19-year-old Javier Gonzalez and a Good Samaritan were working on Gonzalez's broken down vehicle along Interstate 17 near Thomas Road when Gonzalez was struck by another driver who left the scene after the collision.

Gonzalez was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.

DPS believes Farlando Smith was the driver in the deadly hit-and-run. Authorities executed a search warrant and seized Smith's vehicle that they believe was used in the hit-and-run, however, Smith remains on the loose.

Investigators believe Smith may traveling in a grey, Chevrolet Impala and is considered to be armed and dangerous.
