DPS: 2 arrested after Arizona troopers shot at during chase

- Authorities say a vehicle passenger who fired gunshots at Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers during a police chase was on probation for drug convictions.

Records released Monday say 25-year-old Ray Rudy Saucedo leaned out of the vehicle window to fire at officers.

A police vehicle was struck by gunfire, but no injuries were reported.

Saucedo and 30-year-old Tiffany Avalos, who was driving the sedan in which Saucedo was traveling, were booked on suspicion of attempted murder.

The pursuit started after the gold Honda sedan was spotted speeding Sunday on Interstate 17, one mile north of Black Canyon City.

Investigators say the sedan was reported stolen out of New Mexico.

The pursuit ended when the suspects fled into a shopping center parking lot located near I-17 and Carefree Highway. Per DPS, Saucedo and Avalos bailed out of the vehicle and were later arrested at a bagel shop.

It's unclear whether Saucedo and Avalos have yet been assigned attorneys.
