DPS: Trooper intentionally collides with wrong-way driver

TUCSON, Ariz. (KSAZ) -- Officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety said Friday that a wrong-way driver in the Tucson area was stopped, after a trooper intentionally crashed into the car.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, DPS officials said the incident happened on the night of August 14, along the I-10 near Avra Valley, a community located northwest of Tucson. A trooper who was helping a stranded driver in the area heard the report, and responded, and at around 7:40 p.m., the trooper spotted the car heading east on the westbound lanes, and aligned the front left corner of the patrol car with the wrong-way vehicle. The driver was stopped, following the crash.

DPS officials said, in its statement, that the wrong-way driver as a disoriented female. The driver was not properly restrained during the crash, and suffered non-life threatening injuries. That woman was taken to a Tucson hospital.
