DPS trooper speaks out about wrong-way crash

An Arizona Department of Public Safety Trooper is speaking out after he laid his life on the line to save countless drivers from a head-on collision.

Back in August DPS responded to 9-1-1 calls of a truck going the wrong-way on I-17 near Black Canyon City. Trooper Jeremy Barr came to the rescue, initiating a traffic break that slowed down other drivers.

Barr then located the truck driver going the wrong way and intentionally collided with him. His actions and purposefully causing the crash helped save lives.

"He never changed his speed or tried to slow down, or change his driving behavior, and at that point with the traffic coming behind me with that corner I had to take him out, I couldn't let him get past," said Trooper Jeremy Barr.

Barr had minor injuries to his torso following the collision but was later treated. In his 12 years with the department, he has faced six wrong-way drivers and successfully stopped five of them.

The wrong-way driver, 48-year-old Timothy Dwayne Harjo of Wickenberg was booked into jail for aggravated assault and DUI.
