DPS: Wrong-way driver stopped on SR 143 in Phoenix

Officials with the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) said authorities stopped a wrong-way driver in Phoenix Monday afternoon.

According to a statement, the incident took place at approximately 12:47 p.m. on the State Route 143, where DPS troopers responded to reports of a car traveling south on the freeway's northbound lanes. DPS troopers, along with Tempe Police Department officers, were able to stop the car in the area of State Route 143 and Broadway.

DPS officials said during the incident, two cars collided while trying to avoid the wrong-way driver, but there were no injuries. The wrong-way driver was identified as an elderly male, who was reportedly taken to a local hospital with a possible medical condition.
