The child was in the water for an unknown amount of time, and he was transported to an area hospital.

"It's unbelievable," said neighbor Margarita Galan. "It's scary. It can happen to anybody."

According to Peoria Police, the child was pulled from the pool by a family member, who immediately began to provide life-saving measures until Peoria Police arrived at the scene.

The boy, according to Peoria Police, was pronounced dead at approximately 11:00 a.m.

"I have two children of my own so I could just imagine the feeling," said Galan. "My pool is gated. I've always had that main concern. If I get a pool it has to be gated. I have children that are five and six years old."

Peoria Police is now investigating the incident. Officials have not said how the boy got into the backyard, and it is not know if any charges will be filed.

NOTE: Earlier on Friday, Peoria Police Department identified the victim as a three-year-old, but police subsequently discovered the victim is actually a two-year-old. The story has been updated to reflect this.
