PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Elizabeth Johnson the Tempe mother who allegedly gave her son away to a couple in Texas is behind bars, the child became known as "Baby Gabriel" and despite exhaustive searches in Texas he's never been found.
Johnson was booked into an Albuquerque, New Mexico jail Thursday on a probation violation, court paperwork says she is being held without bond. It's not clear that the violation was, but Johnson did get special permission to move to New Mexico after she was released from prison in 2014.
The case stretches back to 2009 when prosecutors say Johnson took Gabriel to Texas when the boy was just eight months old. She first told Gabriel's father that she had killed the little boy, then later claimed she gave him to a San Antonio couple.
Johnson refused to give out any information about that couple, and Gabriel has never been found. She served five years in prison and was ordered to serve four years probation.
