Excessive heat forecast prompts closure of animal shelter to the public

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Arizona Animal Welfare League will close their shelter to the public on Tuesday and Wednesday, due to extreme heat that is forecast for the Phoenix area.

According to a statement released by an AAWL representative Monday afternoon, the shelter will be closed to the public on Tuesday and Wednesday, so its volunteers and employees can focus on handing out cooling mats, ice treats, kennel games and monitoring kennel temperatures.

The shelter was closed to the public on Monday, as normally scheduled.

This is the 3rd time in the shelter's 47-year history that it is closed to the public due to heat, according to the statement. The shelter will reopen late Thursday morning.
