FAA: Single engine plane crashed near Prescott airport

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (KSAZ) -- FAA officials say a single-engine plane was destroyed, following a crash near Ernest A. Love Field Wednesday evening.

According to FAA officials, the plane, identified as a Cessna 210, crashed under unknown circumstances about half a mile short of the approach end of Runway 21R at the airport. The pilot was the only person onboard, but FAA officials provided no details on the condition of the pilot, following the crash, deferring such questions to area authorities.

The plane, according to FAA officials, departed from Prescott and was planning to return to the airport.

The FAA and NTSB will investigate the incident.
