Family, friends heartbroken over young woman's death in crash involving DUI driver

- Tragedy struck on a Valley freeway over the weekend, after a woman was killed when she slammed into another driver who was stopped in the middle of the road.

The driver 20-year-old Desiree Sabby slammed into, identified as 25-year-old Aaron Michael Lawson, survived the crash, but is now behind bars and accused of being drunk and passed out behind the wheel. A judge has ordered that he be held without bail, as this is the second time Lawson has been involved in a felony in the past several months.

Meanwhile, friends and family of Sabby, stunned and heartbroken, are raising funds for her funeral.

On Friday evening, Sabby posted on her Facebook page, asking for ideas on where to have a fun getaway for the weekend weekend. Tragically, several hours later, Sabby would die in a horrific car accident that DPS says was caused by Larson.

According to court paperwork, Larson told a DPS trooper he was out drinking at a North Phoenix Sports Bar near  I-17 and Peoria for about three hours on Friday night. He then got in a Jeep to drive home.

Less than two miles from the sports bar, Larson inexplicably pulled over and stopped his Jeep in the number three lane of I-17, in the underpass at Northern. He was possibly passed out at the wheel.

It was after 3:00 a.m., and one witness told DPS she was able to swerve and avoid the the stopped jeep, but Sabby couldn't stop in time and hit Larson's car. She died at the scene.

Last November, Larson was involved in another alcohol-related offense. While at a friend's home, Larson's gun went off, and the bullet hit and seriously injured one of his friends. Larson was just in court last month for that offense, which resulted in two counts of aggravated assault. He is now facing a second degree murder charge.
