Fans of the Cardinals cope with the loss

- Some Arizona Cardinals fans are mourning because it's never fun to get thrown off a ride like the one we've been on this season. It was unexpected, it was stunning, it was in slow agonizing motion, and it was a long way down.

After you feel like you've been mauled by a panther, never mind a whole team of them, the day after is about licking your wounds.

"It wasn't just a loss, it was a beating, and that was hard to watch," said one fan.

We found several Arizona Cardinals fans consoling themselves at a cafe in Phoenix.

"It was a shame, they got whipped so bad, but it's a great team... it just kind of sucks because we were doing good, and I was expecting to see a Super Bowl," said another fan.

Adam Berry, a sports psychologist, weighed in on the loss.

"An old coach used to say to me, no conceit in victory, no despair in defeat, and I think it is important to remember all of them performed as well as they possibly could," said Adam Berry.

Berry says fan emotions took an extra beating because the game was a blowout.

"I think the people just expected if not a Super Bowl, then a really good game, and it wasn't, and it's the problem that coaches and players have when they do well, the expectations go up, and when they're not met, they're greeted with a great disappointment," said Berry.

Bashing and blaming people won't help people shake this off says Berry.

"The coaches, the fans, the players, need to identify how we take the next step, I think a loss helps you to learn from that, we don't tend to learn by wins, we learn by losses, and that is the way forward," he said.

Most of the people at the cafe were already comforting themselves and saying next year. A game changer here was social media in terms of reaction. People were so hard on Cards Quarterback Palmer, and some of the other players. Berry says no one athlete goes out to have the kind of game the Cardinals had.
