Father outraged hit and run suspect released

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A valley teen badly hurt in a hit and run crash this past weekend is now at home. The driver accused of leaving the scene is now facing some serious charges.

14-year-old Ryan Scali is back home resting after a rough few days. The man accused of hitting Ryan while he was riding his bike Saturday is already out of jail, something that upsets his parents.

"I turned the corner and saw two fire trucks, two ambulances, and my son laying in the middle of the street," said Anthony Scali.

That is how Anthony Scali described seeing his 14-year-old son Ryan after he was hit by a car while riding his bike on Elliot Road in Goodyear Saturday morning.

"He was still talking, saying dad I'm sorry, dad I'm sorry," said Anthony.

Ryan was transported to Phoenix Children's Hospital in bad shape; he was released to go home Tuesday. He has a rod in his leg, four pins in his arms, bruising of some internal organs, and various scrapes and bruises. The pain pills make it hard for him to stay awake.

The man who hit Ryan, Alejandro Barragan was arrested by Goodyear Police Monday night.

FOX 10 went to Barragan's home, but no one answered. Court paperwork says that Barragan hit Ryan, panicked, and then left the scene and went home. It wasn't until someone recognized his truck with damage to the front that Goodyear Police caught up with him. Ryan's father is furious that anyone could leave the scene, but even more upset that Barragan is already out of jail.

"He can go back like his life never happened, and he spent half a day in jail. He's allowed to go out and play with his kids, it's going to take me six months before I can go play catch with my kid, or my son can write a letter because he can't be because of his arm, but he's out?" said Anthony.

Barragan was charged with one felony count of failure to stay after an accident; he is due back in court next month.
