FD: Two injured following Mesa house fire

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A first alarm fire broke out in Mesa Sunday.

Crews from Mesa and Gilbert say when they arrived, there was a heavy fire.

The fire jumped to a second home, but was quickly put out. The second home only had minor damage.

Officials say two people were taken to the hospital, one with minor burns to the hands, but both had smoke inhalation.

"So there were five occupants in the primary home that fled to the backyard and our firefighters had to help them get out of the yard and we did treat two of those five as patients," said Bruce McGregor with the Mesa Fire Department.

Everyone in the second was okay. The fire is still under investigation.
