FedEx driver carjacked at gunpoint; search for suspects underway

GLENDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Just days before Christmas, a FedEx truck driver was carjacked at gunpoint in the West Valley.

The truck, along with its entire load, were gone within minutes. The truck, according to Glendale Police, was found by Phoenix Police just after noon, in the area of 88th Avenue and Camelback Road.

The incident took place at approximately 8:30 a.m., in the area of 86th Avenue and Oregon, just south of Missouri.

Two men were reportedly involved. The driver had just dropped off a package and was walking back to his truck when he noticed there was someone inside. One of the suspects, described by police as an African-American man in his late-30s, pointed a gun at the driver, and told his to not come near the truck.

The driver reportedly tried to take the truck back. Police said that's when a second suspect, described by police as an African-American man in his early-20s with short dreads, drove up in a white sedan, and pointed a gun at the driver. The driver, according to police, had no choice but to give up the truck.

Following the carjacking, both suspect's vehicles left the scene heading westbound on Oregon and south towards Camelback Road.

There were still packages inside the truck at the time of the carjacking and FedEx is working to determine how many packages are still missing.

"I can't imagine how hard it must be for him this time of the year, knowing that everything is holiday packages. So, I'm sure he's just heartbroken," said Sgt. Scott White with Glendale Police.

Police searched the neighborhood, going door to door, hoping to catch a break in the case.

"The police came by, noticed we had cameras, and wanted to check the recording to see if there was anything," said Ron Grooms, who lives in the area.

"Ah man, that's rotten stuff you know," said Harvey McCance, who also lives in the area. "Probably a lot of Christmas presents for kids."

Anyone with information on the suspects' whereabouts should call 911 immediately.

FedEx released the following statement to FOX 10 on the incident:

"We are grateful no one was seriously injured in the vehicle theft. We are cooperating fully with the investigating authorities at this time. Customers with questions about their shipments can track their packages on fedex.com or call 1-800-GO-FEDEX."
