Fire burning at recycling center near Sky Harbor airport

PHOENIX (AP) -- Fire crews are scaling back and allowing a wind-driven blaze at a Phoenix recycling center burn itself out.

Phoenix Fire Department officials say the blaze at Arizona Pacific Pulp and Paper was up to three alarms at one point late Tuesday afternoon but now is two alarms.

Some 150 firefighters are at the scene. Crews still are shooting water at bundled bales of recycled cardboard and other materials on fire or smoldering outside the center.

Wind gusts of up to 30 mph have fanned the flames since the fire broke out around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The cause of the fire still isn't clear.

The recycling center near 38th Street and University Drive is south of Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

There are no reports of any injuries or flight delays.
