Firefighters battle valley house fire

A family lost everything when a fire ravaged their home near 39th Avenue and Happy Valley Road on Tuesday morning.

Phoenix Fire Department crews had to break windows to gain access to the garage where the fire started.

One person was in the house at the time, but they were able to get out safely without injury.

Neighbors say they heard a loud bang and black smoke was seen outside the home.

"There was a big bang, like an explosion or a gunshot and so we had run out like, 'oh, what is that noise?' and we saw big, black smoke. So we came over and we saw the windows had busted out and the whole house was engulfed in flames," said Mariah Hamilton.

The homeowners are looking for their ferret that went missing in the fire.

The cause of the blaze is unknown at this time.
