Phoenix police say the two-car crash happened near 18th Street and Greenway just before 9 p.m. when an SUV traveling eastbound on Greenway collided with a Honda when turning left onto 18th Street.

All passengers, except the 36-year-old driver of the SUV, were ejected during the crash. The 3-year-old boy was taken to a hospital where he later died. A 6-year-old girl and 33-year-old woman, who were both passengers in the SUV, were taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

The 20-year-old driver and lone occupant of the Honda suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police say impairment is being investigated as a factor in the crash.
