Friends remember man who was killed in a motorcycle crash in Scottsdale

- As Scottsdale Police try to figure out the cause of a deadly crash involving a motorcycle and a Tesla car that happened in broad daylight, friends of the motorcyclist killed in that crash, are remembering the impact he made.

"An enthusiast, an innovator," said Nikolas Smilovsky, when asked about his late friend, Greg Dolphin.

Friends and co-workers say the 45-year-old father of two was a dedicated and well-liked leader in the local surveying community. Dolphin was riding his motorcycle near the intersection of Scottsdale and Princess on Sunday, when there was a collision with a red Tesla vehicle. Police did not release a lot of information about how the crash happened, calling it an "active investigation".

Co-workers say Dolphin's death leaves a huge hole in the local surveyor community.

"Definitely pushed the survey industry forward," said Similovsky.

Dolphin was reportedly a proponent of using 3D laser scanning technology.

"We can go out to a job site, and instead of doing the traditional survey one piece at a time intentionally, you can go out and do a laser scan of an entire intersection from the safety of a sidewalk, get everything done in one fell swoop," said Similovsky.. "It wasn't about the bottom dollar. It was about getting the product into the hands of the people that needed it, so they could do their jobs safer."

Police identified the other driver involved as Tracy Morehouse, a 46-year-old attorney. Morehouse reportedly suffered minor injuries, and was treated at the hospital and released.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
