Are you having trouble thinking of what to get that techie on your Christmas list?
Virtual reality gaming is the hot ticket item this year so Fox 10 reporter Ty Brennan checks it out.
“This is probably the hottest things coming to video games.”
We're talking virtual reality…or “VR” as it's called by gamers.
Tishin Donkersley with AZ Tech Beat says VR is only expected to gain in popularity in the coming years. In fact, tech experts believe it will be a $2 billion industry by the year 2020.
Why is it so popular? It puts gamers right in the thick of the action.
“It immerses the player... you feel like you're inside the video game,” says Donkersley.
Multiple companies are coming out with these wearable video screens just in time for the holidays.
The equipment rages from about $30 for a Google Cardboard VR headset to over $200 for one of the Oculus Rift's, which will roll out sometime early 2016.
“You're going to feel like wow, I'm really in this game right now, or I'm really at this concert or I'm in this city in a way that you've never felt before,” Donkersley said.
There are some warnings that go along with these VR headsets. For example, you shouldn't use them for more than 20 minutes and you should always sit down, because the video could you make you a bit dizzy.
