Garbage truck crashes into Gilbert home, driver injured

A family of five in Gilbert received a terrifying wake up call Tuesday morning, when a city garbage truck rammed the front of their home.

"It was the loudest sound I have ever heard," said Tiffany Knox, who owns the home. "The house was shaking, and I was honestly thinking for a second there was a earthquake or something."

Knox and her four children were asleep when the incident took place. Knox's little girl's room was just a wall away from the crash.

"We looked out the window and it's just blue covering," said Knox. "So I look out the other window, and i see that there's a trash truck through our house."

Police have not released a cause for the incident, and the incident is still under investigation. Knox, meanwhile, is said she is still trying to wrap her head around what happened, but she said the touching response from neighbors, Gilbert Police and fire crews have made things easier.

"The police were very nice," said Knox. "They let my kids go inside the fire truck, and I mean, they turned a really hard day for my daughter into a good one."

The touching responses aside, Knox said she is just grateful no one was seriously hurt.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
