Gas explosion at Phoenix home kills 1, injures 1

An explosion involving natural gas and a resulting fire destroyed a home near 11th Avenue and Fillmore on Thursday morning.

One person was injured and another was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire Department spokesman Capt. Jake Van Hook says the fire has spread to a second home and the gas leak is still burning at the first house.

The cause of the explosion hasn't been determined, but a new gas stove and an empty box are sitting in front of the destroyed home in video and a photo provided by the fire department. Nearby is a new gas line to hook up the stove.

Residents in the immediate area were evacuated while crews work to get the gas leak under control.
