Gilbert Police catch double murder suspect after roommate killings

Gilbert Police have caught a double murder suspect who is accused of killing his two roommates.

Gilbert Police spokesperson Jesse Sanger says the deadly shooting broke out at a home near Lindsay and Ray Road.  Police say the gunman shot and killed his two roommates, a woman and a young man, at about 2:45am.  They say he left the crime scene on foot.  The woman who was killed has been identified as 33-year-old Stacey Steward, and the male victim was identified as 17-year-old Alex Tamborski.

Just after 9:00 a.m., police cornered a suspect matching the same description as the gunman, identified as Matthew Crain, in the area of Val Vista and Williamsfield.  Police gave him commands to stop, and when he did not, they reportedly opened fire several times.  The suspect was subsequently taken to the hospital in critical condition.

People living in the area have been told to stay inside while Gilbert Police tried to find the suspect, who was believed to be armed.
