Family members react to Gilbert double murder

- Gilbert Police released new details into a deadly double shooting in Gilbert this weekend.

Officers responded to a verbal fight that turned deadly while they were on the way to the home. Police say Michael Crain shot and killed Stacey Steward, and 17-year-old Alex Tramborski who was dating Stewards' daughter.

"It's very hard when you're 17-years-old, and your life is cut too short because some guy can't handle himself," said Kelsey Sutfin.

Friends are rallying around Tamborski's stunned family who live in Chandler; they've setup a GoFundMe account to help cover funeral expenses. Tamborski was a senior at Corona Del Sol High School.

Jack Tanner didn't know Tamborski or his girlfriend; he said it was a shock to hear of the murder. A team of crisis counselors was brought in by Corona Del Sol HS to help students who are struggling with the news of Alex's death.

"I haven't talked to them personally, but I know that they are there for support for people who need to talk to them," said Tanner.

Friends say Alex was bright, funny, and motivated. He spent time at the airport where he wanted to be a pilot, spending half his days at Corona Del Sol HS and then traveling to the East Valley Institute of Technology to work on achieving that dream. His friends are heartbroken that he won't fulfill that dream.

"Nobody should go through this, he's never going to see prom, or graduation, or college, or any of life's great adventures that everybody embarks on," said Sutfin.

Mary Harley is Stacey Steward's sister, she spoke to FOX 10 about the murders.

"I wish I knew what happened, what trigger this, because at 3 in the morning how in the world can anybody, what could she have done that was so terrible that you could take her life," said Mary Harley.

Police found Crain walking along a canal near Williams Field Road and Val Vista Drive, he placed his hands in the front waistband of his shorts and then extended an arm and the officers perceived a threat and opened fire. Paramedics rushed Crain to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition. Authorities have not found the murder weapon.

"Life taken like this is the worst, you never get over it," said Harley.
