Glendale police ID suspect who was fatally shot by officers

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities have identified a man who was fatally shot by police in Glendale last week near 43rd Avenue and Olive.

Glendale police say 44-year-old Stephen Hudak died at the scene of Friday night's shootout with detectives Jimmy Carlo and Bret McLeod. Officer Dave Norman from the Phoenix Police Department was also at the scene.

Sgt. Robert Livingston was shot and wounded in the exchange with Hudak. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Police say officers were attempting to arrest Hudak when he tried to run away, but was fatally shot during an exchange of gunfire following a search.

Carlo and McLeod are on paid administrative leave, which is standard practice when an officer-involved shooting occurs.

Authorities say the incident remains under investigation.
