Police arrest suspect in hit-and-run of Goodyear teen

Goodyear police have arrested a suspect in connection to a hit-and-run involving a 14-year-old teen that happened last weekend.

The Goodyear Police Department says 37-year-old Alejandro Barragan, an Estrella Mountain Ranch resident, has been arrested and charted with leaving the scene of a serious physical injury collision, which is a Class 3 Felony.

On Saturday, 14-year-old Ryan Scali was riding his bike near the area of 17750 W. Elliot Rd., when he was struck by a black, Chevy Silverado pickup truck.

According to witnesses, the suspect got out of his truck, looked at the boy, got back into his truck and left the scene.

Police located the pickup truck, which had heavy front-end damage, and took Barragan into custody, who confessed to police that he was the driver in the hit-and-run.

Barragan has been booked into Fourth Avenue jail.

Ryan was left with a broken shoulder and leg, 60 stitches in his head, kidney and liver damage. He continues to recover at Phoenix Children's Hospital.
