GREEN THUMB: Diamondbacks unveil urban garden at Chase Field

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - The Arizona Diamondbacks is showing off its green thumb, and they are putting the final touches on a new space at Chase Field called "D-Backs Greens"

The garden is a vertical-hanging urban garden, and it is located on the northwest wall of the Downtown Phoenix stadium.

"The fact the garden is outside the ballpark really gives us an educational platform," said Graham Rossini, the Arizona Diamondbacks Vice President of Special Projects. "We want fans to walk by and understand if we're doing this at ballpark, we could do this in our own backyard."

Flower Street Urban Gardens designed the 180 square foot space. The space is filled with 200 different herbs, everything from chives to rosemary. The soil at the garden will be enriched with compost that was made from items collected at the ballpark's kitchens.

The goal: to teach the public about eco-friendly living and healthy eating.

"We're hoping to use as much of the produce as possible at stadium," said Rossini. "We're also looking to partner with other groups and other kitchens that might be able to use the produce donated as well."
