Gun found in North Canyon High School student's backpack

Phoenix Police were contacted Wednesday after North Canyon High School officials notified them about a student who possibly had a weapon.

When officers arrived at the scene near Union Hills Drive and 16th Street, they contacted a 15-year-old student. After further investigation, a handgun was found in a backpack.

"The incident is under investigation and a student has been detained for questioning," stated Phoebe Volk of the Phoenix Police Department.

The school was placed on lockdown for about 10 minutes while the student was apprehended and placed in police custody.
