Heavy flooding closes roads, schools and knocks out power in the west valley

An overnight storm in the west valley has caused road closures, closed a school and knocked out power to thousands in the west valley.

The storm has caused severe road closures in Maricopa and toppled over power poles and knocked out power in Buckeye. According to APS, more than 3,200 customers were without power last night, however, only about 900 remain in the dark.

Liberty Elementary School in Buckeye also announced they will be closed on Monday to repair storm damage on school property.

As for road closures, MC 85 from Jackrabbit Trail to Shepard's Trail is closed because of downed power lines.

It is unknown when the road will re-open, so drivers should use an alternate route.

Also, in Maricopa, SR 238 between Gila Bend and Maricopa is washed out at mile marker 26, according to the Maricopa Fire Department.

"It's up to the windows, door panels are flooded out, center console is flooded out, everything is flooded out," said one driver.
