The school's principal, David Svorinic, released the following statement in a letter to parents:
"As you may have heard, one of our students was hit by a car while walking in the crosswalk on the way to school this morning. The student received immediate assistance from two of our staff members and was transported to the hospital for further medical attention.
Please use extra caution when driving in and around school areas during drop off and dismissal times. Also, this is an opportune time to remind your child to be vigilant and aware in high traffic areas when walking to and from school.
We are hopeful for a speedy recovery of our student. The unity of our Sunrise Mountain community continues to be a source of pride and strength. If I can answer any questions regarding this situation, please contact the Administration Office at 623-487-5125."
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
