Hiker stranded on South Mountain overnight after injuring ankle

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Emergency crews have rescued a man who was stranded on South Mountain overnight because of an injured ankle.

According to Capt. Rob McDade with the Phoenix Fire Department, the man was hiking on South Mountain on Wednesday night when he injured his ankle.

He was stranded overnight on South Mountain near the television towers.

A helicopter was brought in to rescue him from the mountain. Firefighters say he was too far off the main paved road for crews to drive him down from the mountain.
