NOGALES, Ariz. - The Arizona Department of Public Safety says 129 bales containing over 2,600 pounds (1179 kilograms) of marijuana were found in a van after a traffic stop on Interstate 19 near the U.S.-Mexico border.
According to DPS, the trooper stopped the van traveling northbound for unsafe lane usage. After stopping the vehicle, the male driver immediately fled from the scene into a wooded area and wasn't caught.
Officials say the marijuana seized has a value of nearly $1 million.
Sgt. Mondragon said, “The Department is committed to disrupting criminal activity perpetrated by domestic and transnational criminal organizations in southern Arizona and we are certainly proud of the work accomplished by our people on this case."
