Iconic Cherokee activist to be laid to rest

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday evening for a Cherokee activist who was shot and killed last week.

Family and friends will remember Jess Sixkiller at a funeral service at the Heard Museum. Sixkiller was shot and killed during a home invasion near 55th Avenue and Camelback on Sept. 25.

The service starts at 6 p.m. and on Saturday, he will be laid to rest at a graveside service at Squawbush Cemetary in Coolidge.
