'Kick for the Cure' soccer tournament raises money for breast cancer research

- An amazing event starts today and goes through this weekend. It's called "Kick for the Cure," it's been around for more than 25 years, and there will be thousands of dollars raised for breast cancer awareness and research.

Five-thousand kids in 312 teams from all over Arizona, even eight teams from Durango, Colorado, and six from El Paso, will be participating, and playing in more than 500 games at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex, as well as six other fields across the Valley.

Many players, of course, will be dressed in pink, some will have pink uniforms, others will have pink socks or bows in their hair, but all of the kids and their parents are here for the same reason.

"We think it's important to raise enough money so someday they can hopefully find a cure," one person said.

Over the past two-and-a-half decades, they've raised more than a quarter-million dollars. This year's contribution is expected to be $10,000, and all of it goes to the American Cancer Society and their breast cancer branch.
