SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - The 16-month-old boy who was killed in an accident at a Scottsdale fire station has been identified.
According to a letter sent to the Scottsdale City Attorney's Office by law firm Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie, the victim was identified as Joey Reiss. Reiss' parents, according to the letter, have retained the law firm to investigate and pursue claims related to their child's death.
The letter was obtained, following a Public Records Law request by FOX 10.
The victim, according to Scottsdale city officials, was a relative of a Scottsdale firefighter on duty at the station.
Steve Hulsman, a member of the law firm, released a statement on behalf of the boy's parents, saying they're grieving at this time.
According to the family, the victim "loved farm animals, and had started to learn his animal noises." The victim, according to the family, was "the happiest child ever", and "brightened the room with his smile".
Officials with the law firm say the incident is "a tragic situation that should never happened". The law firm is reportedly investigating the cause of the accident.
The City of Scottsdale is also investigating the accident.
