List of animals seized in abuse investigation released

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has released a list of the animals they took away from a Mesa home, as part of an animal abuse investigation.

The animals were taken on Wednesday, in what Sheriff Joe Arpaio called "the most unusual animal crimes case involving somewhat exotic animals that I have seen in 24 years."

The animals, according to the statement, were left in deplorable living conditions, without access to food and water, while locked inside adequate cages. The animals reportedly include:

In all, 71 animals, one insect, and seven spiders were seized. The animals, according to a statement by the Sheriff's Office, are under care, and will soon be available for adoption.

No arrests have been made, according to officials, but individuals responsible, according to the statement, could face up to 71 misdemeanor counts for allegedly failing to provide adequate food, shelter, and water.
