Local law enforcement ramp up DUI patrols, release statistics

Drive hammered, get nailed!
That's the message and warning law enforcement has sent out this holiday weekend. Tonight, we're getting a closer look at how well they enforced that rule!
Here is a breakdown of the numbers from just Friday and Saturday. There was a total of nearly 7500 traffic stops.
Luckily, 365 of those vehicles had a designated driver. Police made 282 DUI arrests in those two days. 27 were aggravated DUIs and 255 were misdemeanors.
Officials say 73 of those drivers had a blood alcohol content, or BAC of more than .15. And 32 of those drivers had a prior DUI arrest.
Police arrested 26 drivers under the age of 21 for DUI and there were 47 arrests made for "Drug DUI."
These statistics are the result of dedication and training of police and highway patrol officers, as well as sheriff deputies and volunteers. A total of 988 personnel have been working to keep drivers under the influence of drugs and alcohol off our streets so far this weekend.
Later tonight, we’ll talk to law enforcement officials about how they feel the message is working and we’ll compare these numbers to last year’s statistics.
