Local organization aims to make prom accessible for teens in need

Prom is right around the corner for thousands of high school students here in Arizona, but it can be costly.
Fortunately, one local organization is making it affordable for everyone by offering free dresses, jewelry and shoes for some very deserving teens.
Local high school juniors and seniors waited in long lines in Chandler, some even overnight, for a chance to get all their prom shopping done, all for free.
“Oh my gosh, if something was made for somebody, this was made for her!
“This is where the girls will check out when they get their dress and their shoes and their jewelry that they get for free.”
Traci Eteson is one of the event organizers of the Cinderella Affair.
This is the 15th annual event, put on by the East Valley Women's League.
Volunteers help the girls get everything they need to make prom a memorable event.
“It's just beautiful. It really makes a difference in how people make you feel and how it looks.  It's really cool.”
“Do you feel like a princess?  I feel like a princess in both of them.”
“I'm just amazed being here -- I was not aware of all the shoes, the jewelry and everything and I'm like I thought I was just getting a dress and now I'm getting the whole thing and I'm just so excited to be here.”
More than 15,000 dresses were handed out at last year’s event, making prom a bit more memorable -- one dress at a time.
The event will be happening for the next two Saturdays at the Cinderella Affair.
Students need to be a junior or senior with a valid school ID and it is first-come first-served.
