Man accused of exposing, touching himself in front of juvenile in Mesa

Mesa police announced Wednesday that a 50-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly exposing himself to others, including a juvenile.

According to a statement released by Detective Nik Rasheta Wednesday afternoon, Erik Gerard Becker was identified as an investigative lead in a number of indecent exposure incidents that date back to February 15, 2017. He was arrested at his home.

The incidents include one that involved a 12-year-old girl on October 12, 2017, in the area of 2000 S. Longmore. According to police, they began to look into Becker, after that incident. The 12-year-old girl was walking her dog near Longmore, when she said a man had his pants down, and was touching himself, right in front of her.

The description the girl gave police matched Becker's profile.

The other incidents, according to Mesa police, involved adult victims, and happened on February 15 and November 2.

According to Mesa police, Becker has a history of public sexual indecency and indecent exposure charges in Mesa and Chandler. Becker was reportedly thrown in jail as early as 1989, in Michigan.

In Becker's neighborhood, it didn't take tong to find neighbors who recalled witnessing similar actions.

"I was walking over and I saw a man that was walked to his gate naked, and then, he turned around and he walked back to his house," said Barbara Franklin. "That's all I saw, that he was naked."

Franklin now has no doubt in her mind that the incident involved Becker.

"Of course that's disgusting," said Franklin.

Becker, according to police, has been charged with four counts of public sexual indecency and three counts of indecent exposure. In addition, Mesa Police officials say they are working closely with Chandler Police, where Becker has been identified as an investigative lead in a series of indecent exposure incidents there.

Meanwhile, parents say they are concerned.

"It makes me not want to allow my kids to go and do what they wanna do, that I wanna be with them all the time," said one woman.
