Arizona man accused of giving gun to teen daughter to shoot herself

FORT MOHAVE, Ariz. (AP) - A northwestern Arizona man is accused of giving his 14-year-old daughter a gun and telling her to kill herself. The Mohave County Sheriff's Office says 38-year-old Ulys Laffette Bell IV of Fort Mohave told deputies he had disciplinary issues with his daughter, handed her a handgun and told her to pull the trigger.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Sue Callahan says it isn't confirmed that the gun was unloaded at the time because authorities didn't learn about the incident Sunday until the girl told school officials about it on Monday.

Bell is jailed on suspicion of disorderly conduct with a weapon, child abuse and endangerment.

It isn't immediately known whether he has an attorney who could comment on the allegations.

Fort Mohave is 85 miles south of Las Vegas.
