Man accused of killing 4 pedestrians in Fountain Hills

- A man accused of killing four pedestrians in Fountain Hills has been indicted by a grand jury and is awaiting extradition back to Arizona.

A Maricopa County Grand Jury indicted 28-year-old Alex Bashaw on four counts of manslaughter this week.

Authorities say Bashaw was behind the wheel of an SUV that jumped a curb, and plowed into four people who were crossing the street at Saguaro and Palisades in Fountain Hills.

Bashaw stayed at the scene after the collision and performed sobriety tests, however, it's unclear if he was impaired at the time of the crash.

A couple from Canada, and a couple from Iowa, who all happened to be in the same crosswalk, were killed. Three of the died at the scene, and the last victim was flown to a Canadian hospital where he died last month.

Bashaw moved to Ohio after the deadly crash and was arrested there earlier this week. He is awaiting extradition back to Arizona.

"Well, I hope he gets his life together," said Rhonda Francis, via a phone interview. Francis lost her sister and brother-in-law in the crash.

According to court records, Bashaw was a known drug addict and has a history of arrests in Arizona, including possession of heroin and prescription medications.

He took a plea deal in 2013 and was sentenced to probation, which records show, he violated at least five times.

Bashaw was not on probation in March when the deadly crash happened.

"We need to have justice and closure, because it was a horrific accident," said Francis. "It wasn't even an accident because it was intentional. I believe he was distracted in my heart, and I think he was "

His bond has been set at $750,000.
