Man arrested for exposing himself in front of teen works for Catholic Charities of Phoenix

FOX 10 Phoenix is learning more about a man who was arrested for indecent exposure in the East Valley.

As it turns out, the suspect, 50-year-old Erik Gerard Becker, has a pretty high position where he works: Catholic Charities in Phoenix.

According to court paperwork, Becker has had a history of indecent exposure arrests, dating back to the 1980s in Michigan. He also told police he has had a lifetime problem with sex addiction, and is still in therapy.

In a jailhouse courtroom, Becker's attorney said he should be released with electronic monitoring and would not flee the valley.

"He is gainfully employed, has two kids under the age of 18, and has the love and support of his wife," said Becker's attorney.

The judge allowed Becker out of jail on a $10,000 bond, with electronic monitoring.

Erik Becker is Chief Financial Officer for Catholic Charities in Phoenix. The charity declined an on-camera interview, but did release this statement:

Catholic Charities in Phoenix officials also said the entire organization is stunned and devastated, and is providing counseling to any employee who may request it.

A thorough background check going back seven years was done when Becker was hired in 2015, and did not turn up anything that would have prevented his hiring.
