PHOENIX (KSAZ) - A man and woman were hit by a driver while crossing the road near 35th Avenue and Indian School Road - one of the pedestrians, a 29-year-old refugee from Africa, passed away Saturday morning.
Kasuba Safari was a refugee from Africa and had lived in Arizona for the past two years.
Friends say he had just found a job a few days ago and was walking home when he and another women were hit by a car Thursday night. Both were taken to the hospital and Phoenix officials say the driver took off.
"I can't even explain the pain that we are feeling right now," said Serge Mutalimba, Safari's brother.
Friends and family say they do not know who the woman might be.
"We don't know if they were companions, or together, or - both got struck at the same time at this time but we don't know if they knew each other - same dark place right now," said Mutalimba.
However, they want answers and will forever miss their brother, who loved singing, helping others and playing sports.
"Very good person, church loving person, [he] sung in church, played drums, played guitar, had a good time all the time," Mutalimba said.
