Man who kidnapped elderly Scottsdale woman gets 25 years

PHOENIX (AP) - A man who broke into the home of an elderly Scottsdale woman, stole her cash and then kidnapped her will spent the next 25 years in prison.

Maricopa County Superior Court officials say a judge handed down the sentence Friday to Ian Michael Nielsen.

Nielsen pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder and kidnapping.

Scottsdale police say the 25-year-old Nielsen broke into the home of a 94-year-old woman Nov. 7 and demanded money.

He then bound her before locking her inside her car's trunk, then drove around before abandoning the vehicle in a mall parking lot.

The victim eventually freed herself from the trunk.
