Man with one leg called a hero for helping car crash victims

In a follow-up on a story aired on FOX 10 News at Nine on Tuesday, a man is speaking out, after he came to the rescue of some car crash victims.

Arthur Belyeu, who has only one leg, gets around easiest in his wheelchair. Last Wednesday afternoon, he had just passed the intersection of 43rd Avenue and Roosevelt, when he heard a car crash. Belyeu immediately took action.

"As soon as I see that, I threw my soda down, rolled over to the scene, got the back hatch down and went in and started extricating people from the car," said Belyeu.

This scene, captured on cell phone video, shows Belyeu cutting the seatbelts to help free the driver and passenger of this car.

"I brought him out first, she was tangled up," said Belyeu. "I brought him out, used my wheelchair, and extricated her out of the vehicle."

Belyeu did all those, with one leg.

"It doesn't matter to me, because I only have one leg, doesn't mean I can't do things," said Belyeu, who then gave his wheelchair to the woman.

Belyeu said he would do it all over again. Bystanders at the scene called him a hero.

"I'll do anything I can to help my fellow brothers and sisters, anytime," said Belyeu.
