PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- Officials with the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control are asking people to be on alert, as reports circulate of a donation scam.
According to a statement issued by Jose Santiago Wednesday afternoon, the organization recently learned that there are people going out into the community and soliciting donations, claiming they are doing so for MCACC. Santiago said MCACC will not call or go door-to-door for donations of any kind, and organizations or groups that collect donations for MCACC will contact MCACC first to make them aware of it happening.
"Anyone who is approached either in public or at their home by someone saying they are working with us should be aware that they are not associated with us in any manner," Santiago wrote. He also wrote that people should contact authorities with information on such activities.
